GETTING STARTED WITH THE FREEWHEELING ADVENTURES APP

NOTE: You will also have the option of a paper package upon meeting your support person.

1. Download the App: Search for “Freewheeling Adventures” in your device’s app store and download it.
2. Access Trip Details: About 30 days before your tour, you’ll receive an email with a link to your trip details. Open the link on your mobile device and verify your email to access your tour information in the “My Trips” section of the app.
3. Optional: Get RideWithGPS: If you want enhanced GPS navigation and other features, download the “RideWithGPS” app.

UPGRADE YOUR NAVIGATION WITH RideWithGPS (Optional)

Unlock Premium Features: Once you have access to your trip, you can RSVP to your tour event using the link in your Freewheeling app’s “Trip Items” to get free premium RideWithGPS access for the duration of your tour.

RSVP Instructions:

1. Open the Freewheeling Adventures app and go to “My Trips.”
2. Tap the clipboard icon in the top right corner to view your “Trip Items.”
3. Select the RideWithGPS option, tap the RSVP link, and sign in or create a new account.
4. A confirmation message “Congratulations, you’re RSVP’d” will appear.

You can now access the routes from the Freewheeling app, or by going to “More” and “My Events” in the RideWithGPS app. Here are some helpful resources:

• Tips and tricks for conserving battery life: Using mobile apps for navigation can drain your battery. Carry a battery pack, adjust your device’s settings for longer battery life, or consider sharing navigation with a fellow traveller.
• Navigation and turn-by-turn cues.
• Working with the mobile elevation profile.
• Recording your ride.
• Managing your settings (If your app is showing the wrong distance metric – this can be adjusted in your personal phone’s RWGPS settings to be set to Metric, or Imperial, based you your location/preferences).
• Download routes/maps for offline use.
• Download route to Garmin/Wahoo Device.

HIKING:

Despite the name Ride With GPS, which is clearly tailored to be a cycling app – we find it to be a very useful tool for our hiking trips, with some minor adjustments. The most effective being:

1. Turn off the auto-pause feature in your settings (This is the biggest thing that will improve your hiking experience!).
2. Ensure “Keep screen on” is toggled off in your settings (This will conserve battery life and allow you to pull out your phone and check anytime to make sure you’re on the right path).
